Last year Brooklyn resident Cheryl Clancy noted that a one-legged sandhill crane, affectionately named Sir-Limps-A-Lot, spent the summer around her Vineyard Lake home. She said that Sir-Limps, aka Limpy, returned this summer…with a mate! Evidently being one-legged doesn’t crimp Sir-Limps-A-Lot’s style!
They named the mate Brooklyn, or Brooke for short.
Clancy added that sandhill cranes do not have inside voices. “You can hear her start up the conversation with a loud singing, and he will respond in kind. The best part is when they start talking. They do make beautiful music when they are both ‘choral-ling’ together.”
